Monthly Branch Programs
2025 – 2026

Branch Programs are held at the Ann Arbor City Club, 1820 Washtenaw Avenue, on the third Wednesday of the month (except in September) beginning with a reserved paid lunch, followed by a free public program.

Branch Banquets include an expanded program and require advance reservations and prepayment.

Most branch programs are open to the general public. You do not need to be a member of AAUW to attend the program.

AAUW-Ann Arbor Open House: Celebrating 123 Years!

President Elizabeth Nelson and President-elect Cris Howe will present an overview of the coming year. Chairs of our Interest Groups and branch  missions (National Conference for College Women Student Leaders and Digital Divas) will describe their activities. There will be a report on our 71st annual book sale held earlier this month. Guests will be able to join AAUW-AA at a reduced rate this evening and at all subsequent programs.

Jan BenDor is a renowned women’s rights activist. In 2025, we have people in power who are calling for women to lose the right to vote or who are telling states that their programs to protect the poor and disabled “must end now.” Jan will lead a call to action on women’s issues under the Trump administration to counter the cruel authoritarian climate we are facing on many fronts.

My Life in Film

Heidi Elizabeth Philipsen-Meissner is the producer and director of Love &
Vodka, which premiered at the Cinetopia Film Festival last year. An extremely shy girl from Ypsilanti, Michigan, Heidi followed her dreams to find a career in international film and television and forge a way into the arena of sustainable filmmaking with community and culture at its core.

Ann Arbor’s Comprehensive Land Use Plan

Brian R. Chambers, Ph.D., has graduate degrees from the U-M Ross School of Business and the Taubman College of Architecture and Urban Planning. He will explain how the land use plan tackles our biggest challenges—housing affordability, sustainability, and equity—while noting opportunities for mixed-income housing, and climate-aligned growth.

Shaping Michigan’s Future: Environmental Regulation and Climate Progress

Gillian Ream Gainsley, EGLE Chief of Staff, will provide an inside look at how the Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy enforces regulations that safeguard our air, land, water, and climate. She will highlight progress on clean energy, climate action, safe drinking water and protecting our natural resources for the future.

Black Coffee, No Sugar No Cream:  Brewing the Perfect Cup

Daicia Price, Ph.D, serves as a clinical associate professor of social work at
the U-M School of Social Work. She will explore the educational journey of
a Black woman, both the challenges and triumphs shaped by her intersecting identities. She will also share insight into inclusive practices that educators and institutions can adopt to create supportive environments where all students can thrive, and feel seen.
